Jeroen Verbrugge
If people speak about Jeroen Verbrugge, undoubtedly his great passion for the design profession will be mentioned. That will not only apply to his former company FLEX/design with its team of 30 dedicated designers, engineers, modelmakers and office management. Outside FLEX Jeroen has been part of many initiatives to strengthen the design field, such as his membership of the BNO board between 1998 and 2010 and by initiating several researches, such as the International Benchmark Research of Dutch Design Agencies in 2000 and the research ‘Accountability of Design’ in 2010. In 2012 he promoted at the Universiteit Twente with his dissertation based on five of his designs and a new – descriptive – ‘chaordic’ design methodology called ‘Creative Reflexion’. Between 2012 and 2016 Jeroen was member of the Dutch Creative Council, the advisory board of the Topsector Creative Industry, part of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Ministry of Culture and Education. Already during his studies Jeroen expressed a wide interest. He received his diploma from the TU Delft Industrial Design, but parallel to that he followed a study in business at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam. Jeroen is frequently asked for lectures and was Gast Professor at the Hochschule für Gestaltung in Offenbach between 2005 and 2009.
In 2018, Jeroen launched an MBA ‘Elective’ on Design Thinking at the EUR RSM together with Prof. J.C.M. (Jan) van den Ende and Dirk Deichmann, associate professor at the Rotterdam School of Management. As from November 2022 Jeroen ended his fantastic period of 33 inspiring years at FLEX/design. He is continuing his passion for this profession ‘on the side’ with different consultancies in industry, startup organisations and education, self employed in JKV/thinkingdesign.
