Dr. Ir. Perica Savanović has been a professor of Built Environment since June 1, 2019. First at Avans UAS Centre of Applied Research for Technical Innovation, and from November 1, 2022, as part of the Research and Innovation Centre for Technology, Design, and Informatics at Inholland UAS. Through this position, Perica focuses on complex societal challenges and transitions within the built environment. According to the Climate Agreement, by 2050, 7 million homes and 1 million buildings must be disconnected from natural gas, with an interim goal of making the first 1.5 million existing homes sustainable by 2030. This immense task alone requires innovative solutions within a development process of integral design and participatory creation, ensuring they are well applicable and meet the needs of the end-user.

Through concrete challenges, Perica aims to establish projects within the professorship to further improve this way of designing and contribute to innovation in the built environment. This approach will foster a sustainable living environment and a resilient society.

Collaboration

Perica aims to break through traditional silos within the construction world, encouraging involved disciplines to work together on integral designs for transitions in the built environment. Furthermore, with participatory creation, the door is open to other professionals and stakeholders outside the field, such as end-users. It is ultimately up to this group to embrace the innovations being developed. Perica advocates for an open structure of collaboration where the most promising partnerships are determined per issue. This naturally involves parties from the design, construction, and technology sectors (OBT), but also parties from industry, IT, education, the social domain, and the creative sector.
