Cybersocial Design

Designing for Smart Transitions

Design is not a solitary pursuit; it revolves around creatively integrating various materials, concepts, perspectives, and people.

On Wednesday, July 6, 2022, the new design researchers from the Knowledge Center Creating 010 at Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences, Anja Overdiek and Tomasz Jaskiewicz, gathered at Het Nieuwe Instituut under the theme “The Power of Creative Encounters: An Inauguration in Three Acts,” which featured two lectures and a debate on the role of design in a digitizing society.

In her public lecture, Anja explored “Cybersocial Design” as a form of ‘post-humanist’ design that contributes to ‘smart’ sustainability transitions by balancing the central role of the individual with the interests of other human (e.g., others, collectives) and non-human (e.g., nature, technology) stakeholders. She guided the audience through the challenges and opportunities of creative encounters in facilitating emerging social networks and creating new digital contexts using technologies such as artificial intelligence and blockchain.
