Civic Prototyping

Design is not a solitary endeavour; it revolves around creatively bringing together various materials, concepts, perspectives, and people.

On Wednesday, July 6, 2022, the new design researchers from the Knowledge Center Creating 010 at Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences, Anja Overdiek and Tomasz Jaskiewicz, gathered at Het Nieuwe Instituut under the theme “The Power of Creative Encounters: An Inauguration in Three Acts,” which included two lectures and a debate on the role of design in a digitizing society.

In his public lecture, Tomasz presented the theme of his research chair, “Civic Prototyping.” Under this theme, he explores the creative intersection of social engagement and design prototyping as a catalyst for “democracy in miniature.” He discussed how building prototypes can be a means for everyone to learn, how this approach can enhance our social capacity, and how it can drive inclusive innovation.
