network

NADR is the national platform for research groups focusing on applied design research. Founded in 2015, NADR is a network of some 30 professors and research groups affiliated with 15 Dutch universities of applied sciences. The defining characteristic of NADR is the collaboration of researchers with different areas of knowledge and application, crossing the boundaries of various disciplines.

The core of NADR is formed by its active members. These are professors, design practitioners, and researchers that contribute to the network’s activities. Discussion between members takes place at regular network meetings and workshops where the status of activities is discussed. Other stakeholders interested in applied design research may also be members. NADR has a steering group consisting of a team of nine professors of applied sciences. The network is chaired by Peter Joore, professor Open Innovation at NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences.

practitioners’ council

A close connection to design professionals helps to identify questions from professional practice

To promote interaction with professional practice, NADR has a practitioners' council with representatives from the field. The council includes representatives from various organisations, involved in different design research activities. Members of the practitioners council identify topics of interest from professional practice, and provide feedback to NADR. Chair of the practitioners' council is Karin van Beurden, emeritus professor Product Design at Saxion University of Applied Sciences and original founder of the NADR network.
